Course Details

The course starts and finishes at the entrance to the Cavehill Country Park adjacent to the Boys Model School Ballysillan. Road. The school acts as race headquarters with registration, changing and post event refreshments.

Initially the course climbs above the houses then turns right following paths that lead briefly onto the Cavehill Rd then back into the park along gravel paths to the Belfast Castle. The route passes through the Castle and then starts again on gravel paths up to the caves below McArts Fort. This is the steepest section of the route and the first opportunity to see views over Belfast City and lough to the Castlereagh Hills and Scrabo. Beyound the caves we follow the downhill path behind the Zoo untill a small metal bridge. At the bridge we take left on a mud path that demands care and good footwear untill we emerge again on an older path that starts an assent via steps grass and gravel paths to the top of McArts Fort. From here you can see Carrickfergus, Strangford lough,All of Belfast and the Mournes, this is also the high point on the course at approx 6.5k.

The way home is a gradual decline on gravel paths that initially head toward the Hightown Rd then cuts back towards the finish at Boys Model with views over Belfast on route.
