Sat 19 July 2003 - Ian Taylor
You are reminded that the next NIMRA Championship race is tonight, Friday, 18 July at 7.30 pm. The route is from Newcastle Centre, via Donard Park to the summit of Donard and return to Newcastle Centre. Athletes may choose to ascent via the Black Stairs or the Glen River. With improvements to the latter route, it is no longer quite so obvious that the Black Stairs is the quicker route in ascent. The records for the old route, finishing in Donard Park, are 50:30 (Ian Holmes) and 61:09 (Angela Mudge) set in the Br Championship race of 2000. In Ians case this corresponding to 36:14 to ascent (beatable by a few) and 14:16 min to descend (impossible by everyone else). In that race the fastest time by a NI runner, Brian Ervine, was 52:28 (37:00 up and 15:28 down).
