Donard Race, Friday

Thu 19 June 2003 - Ian Taylor

The final race of the Hill & Dale series takes place this Friday, 20 June at 7.30 pm from Donard car park, Newcastle. As the final race of the series, its one you won want to miss, with celebrations and prize giving afterwards.

The race has a new route, rumoured to stay on the left hand side of the Glen River, using the meandering path through the forest in descent and visiting the quarry.

While some categories have already been decided others are wide open. For example amongst the Juniors, Adam Mitten (Newcastle) and Jonathan McCloy (Mid-Ulster) are both on 9 points, with three wins and three seconds. Of course if Chris Bell returns from injury he could possibly win and leave the series result undecided! Owen McMurray is in third place with 17 points.

While Sharon McBurney wins the Ladies category with 6 wins, Violet Linton and Alwyn Shannon are both on 11 points. However with Violet away on Friday, Alwyn would still have to win to improve her points total. However she is in first place for veteran ladies. Next positions are held by Martina Elliott (20 points), Stephanie Pruzina (23) and Roma McConville (24), ignoring the veteran category.

In the veteran mens 55 category, Desi McHenry has 6 points, followed by Billy Magee on 11, Denis Rankin 13, Fred Boal 22 and Ronnie Donaldson 28.

While Neil Carty has won the overall mens category with 7 points, Deon McNeilly and Alan McKibbin are likely to be second and third if they appear on Friday. Alex Brennan has 19 points, Damian Branigan 28 and Andy Gregg 35.

All the above points and positions are unofficial and subject to confirmation by the Hill & Dale committee. Just make sure you are there on Friday.
