McNeilly takes Vets Championship

Deon McNeilly just piped clubmate Robbie Bryson to the NI Vets Cross-Country Championships, held on Saturday in Castle Park, Bangor. The Newcastle pair debated the lead throughout the 3 mile course with Robbie opening a 10 yard leading halfway round the last lap, before Deon put in a strong finish to win by a second. Damien McGinty was a further 30 seconds back in third.

Other Mountain Running Vets Where: - DERMOT MCGONIGLE 11th, DESSIE MCHENRY 19th, W MCKAY 36th, BRIAN MCBURNEY 43rd, JIM HAYES 60th, RICKY COWAN 86th, EDDIE MOORE 93rd, IAN TAYLOR 94th.

In the Junior Championships taking place at the same venue. Gareth Arnott proved to be top mountain runner finishing in 8th place. Others included DAVE MCKIBBEN 13th, DAVID MCNEILY 15th, DAMIEN BRANNIGAN 16th, STEVE BEGLEY 20th, PAUL MAWHIRT 21st, JOE MCCANN 30th, DESSIE MCHENRY 31st, CHRIS BELL 36th, JAMIE STEWART 42nd, IAN BRANNIGAN 46th, HUGO RODGERS 61st.
