Slieve Gullion Preview

The new mountain running season kicks off this weekend (Saturday the 8th of March at 12 noon) with the Slieve Gullion race, superbly organised by Armagh AC. Full details of the race route and how to find the start are available Here

Reigning mens champion Brian Ervine (Ballydrain) will be hoping to pick up were he left off last year, but will be hard pushed by both Deon McNeilly (Newcastle) and Neil Carty (North Belfast). However both David McNeilly and Paul Mawhirt could also be darkhorses after impressive cross-country outings.

With ladies champion Shileen OKane out injured the woman?s race is wide open, with Violet Cordner perhaps starting as slight favourite.

Slieve Gullion is also incorporating the first round of the new look Northern Ireland Mountain Running Championship. This years series includes 9 races, with a runners best 5 including at least 1 short, 1 medium and 1 long race determining the runners final placing.
