Irish Universities Mountain Championship (amended)

Congratulations to the University of Ulster Ladies team who won the Ladies section of the Irish Universities Mountain Championship on 1 February in the Wicklow mountains. The team of Kerry Harty,Patricia OCallaghan, Sinead Murphy and Patricia Logue, managed by Ian ONeill, gained second, fourth, fifth and seventh places in the ladies section to beat last years winners, UCD. They even managed to get their picture on the UU web site. Both Kerry and Sinead are also members of Newcastle AC. The mens race was won by National University of Ireland at Galway. The event was held within the IMRA Winter League series, won by Vincent OSullivan in 46:15, with 95 competitors.

You might be interested to know that Kerry, as Kerry OFlaherty, was a member of the 1997 NI British Junior Team that competed in South Wales. Of the 12 team members at least seven are still participating in athletics - as well as Kerry there is Jamie, Robert, Simon, Caroline, Jenny and David.
