Slieve Foye Race

Fri 10 September 2004 - Ian Taylor

The Slieve Foye Mountain Trial is taking place this Saturday, 11 September. As is customary with trial type events, the start is staggered from 10 am onwards. There are 10 control points to collect over a 13 miles route with 4000 feet of climb. Hence it would be excellent preparation for the mountain marathon - or a new event to try if you are not familiar with it. Note you will probably need a 1:50,000 map of the Slieve Foye area (either NI 36A or Irish 36).

The start has been moved from the Slieve Foye car park at grid reference 168137 to a more convenient venue organisationally. The start is now at grid reference 123157. To get to it take the road going very sharp right at Davy?s pub about four miles outside Newry towards Omeath. Follow this road as it gradually climbs south east for three miles to a junction (Bavan on some maps) where a lane goes left downhill. The start is down this lane on the left.
