Countdown to Glens Race
Sun 25 December 2005 - Simon Taylor
The
countdown is on for Ballymena Runners first event of the year, the Race
Over the Glens on 2nd January. The local club is expecting a
high entry this year and the events popularity is mirrored by the array of
sponsors they have attracted for their New Year promotion. On board once again
are Kwik
Fit Fleet who are accompanied by Michelin, Fitness First Ballymena,
Northstone NI , Northern Bank Business Centre, with
race refreshments provided by Deep River Rock and Powerade
This will all make for an attractive promotion with all the entrants
taking home t-shirts, water bottles and trophies for the age category winners.

The
race is now in it?s eleventh year and continues to grow each year with this
years entry reaching the two hundred mark. For those unfamiliar with the event
it is held in Glenariff Forest Park and takes in a variety of terrain including
road, forestry and grassy paths over a 5.5 mile loop. Next years race,
traditionally held on New Years Day has been switched to Monday 2nd with an
earlier start time of 12 noon. With the Monday now a
bank holiday the club is expecting a bumper entry and allows New Years Eve
revellers to tackle the event with a clear head!
The
race is open to all runners of all standards over the age of 16 and the first
two hundred and fifty runners will each receive an event T-shirt and water
bottle along with a week pass to Fitness First. There will also be post race
refreshments in the Glenariff Tea rooms. Entry fees have been set at ?8 for
NIAF club runners and ?9 for non club runners. Entrants should note whilst
entries will be accepted on the day they will incur a ?1 surcharge. Competitors
are urged to pre enter the event where possible. Entry forms and more
information on the event can be found at the race website
