Flagstaff
Sat 11 June 2005 - Ian Taylor
You are reminded that the Flagstaff race is on Sunday at 11 am, starting from the track entrance as indicated on the web site details near the Flagstaff car part. However most entrants park in Carlingford and get the bus provided, leaving about 10:30 am, to the start.
Recent races have been dominated by Brian and Deon with Neil close behind. Unlike last year, when the race had Championship status and a record entry, it will be interested to see who of the top runners appear. Perhaps it will provide an opportunity for the younger pretenders to shown their stuff. However Flagstaff, although the "shortest" long race, is not to be underestimated, with lots of route choice on the last three legs where previous experience can be vital. Recently no one has come near the current record 1:27:25 set by Deon in 1997.
In the Ladies section the fastest recent time was set by Violet Linton in 2:13:50 last year, but still way outside Shileens record of 2:02:04. The fastest junior time still remains that of Simon Taylor in 1:56:45 but others are now potentially capable of beating this time given good conditions and support with route choice.
Don forget to allow time for the prize giving in the community hall in Carlingford, with generous prizes supported by Armagh AC.
