Seniors, travelling to Yorkshire for the final Br Championship event
This race, over Whernside in the Yorkshire Dales is the last
opportunity for athletes to improve their standing in the 2007 Br
Championship. As it is also an English Championship counter there
are likely to be 400+ athletes in competition for places.
Fiona Maxwell is one of our representatives and has already claimed the
Ladies vet40 title. However she is also in third place in the
Open category, one point behind Anna Bartlett. However
Janet McIver in fourth place has only three results counting so far - a
win for her would move her into first place and Fiona back to
fourth. Hence to be in a medal position Fiona needs to overtake
Anna by finishing Whernside in fourth or higher place, with Anna sixth
or less.
Alwynne Shannon also has put in some excellent performances. As
well as being 14th in the open category she is in bronze medal position
in the vet40 age group, one point behind Sally Newman. However
the latter and the fourth place athletes both have one race to add so
Alwynnes position looks vulnerable.
Des Woods is in 19th place in the Open category and 8th in the vet40
one. However Des has only three races counting so far, so a good
place this weekend would move him considerably up the rankings,
potentially to third place in the vet 40 group.
Best wishes to all our athletes. The rest of us will just have to
start some winter training to put us in a better position for 2008.
