Smallish running club seeks large contingent of fell runners
to run tough race in East Antrim, GSOH preferable, steep climbs and descents
provided, all welcome.
One for your diaries please. This Sat sees the fifteenth
running of the P&O Knockdhu Classic Mountain Race at Cairncastle above
Larne.
The race this year is a grand prix counter as well as the
usual home nations competition. Some cracking runners are due to be in
attendance including Snowdon winner Tim Davies. Apart from the British
championship counter it will probably be the best field assembled in the North
during the season.
In order for the event to thrive it is important that we put
out a good field, both in the races and throughout the day in general. In the
past our visitors have always been impressed by the friendship and hospitality
extended to them by local fell runners. It would be very much appreciated if
this trend could be continued this year.
The race is well worth doing in its own right. Covering
4.7mls there are five climbs and 4 descents. Although not particularly long
they are steep and fast. The course is set amongst some very scenic
surroundings in an area of outstanding natural beauty including Knockdhu itself
and the cliffs of the Sallagh Braes. If you get a chance to look up it is quite
possible that on a clear day you can pick out the Paps of Jura in the distance.
The main race starts at 13.00 and the U20+U17 at 12.30.
Registration for all opens at 11.30.
Entry ?5 inc water, T shirt.
Linford car park, above Cairncastle GR 332073.
An evening function including sit down barbecue buffet,
prizegiving, entertainment and copious amounts of drink is also held on the
Sat. All are welcome to attend. Tickets can be bought on the day at a cost of ?8.00.
Hopefully this all sounds sufficiently tempting.
Get your shoes cleaned and see you there!
