September 2007
Hi Everyone,
Just letting you know about the exciting new women only hill
/ fell / off road running club for Irish females.
The club grew out of our increasing frustration at being
unable to field a ladies team at events across the water and beyond. As many of
you will already know, on the day at this years Carnethy 5 race the girls from
Newcastle A.C and Mourne Runners formed a temporary alliance, had we been a
?real? team we would have finished 4th. So the idea for a ladies 2nd
preference club emerged.
Since then we have been in contact with the FRA and NIAF
with regard to our position. Although
both organizations had said they were happy that we could legally compete for
?Slieve na mBan? across the water but remain first and foremost members of our
respective clubs, this no longer seems to be the case. I have since been in
contact with UKA and by registering the new club with them we will then be able
to run for both clubs without any restrictions.
To date we have a membership of 5!!!!
Myself (chairperson),
Anne Sandford (secretary), Fiona Maxwell
(treasurer) Alwynne Shannon and Tricia Sloan and have an entry in for
the FRA relays in October ( still short one runner are you interested?
). We would love not only for the rest of you to join us but to
consider a 2
nd team for he FRA?s. We are flying Flybe Belfast City
to Manchester out on Friday 12 Oct @ 16:05 and returning Sunday 14
th
@ 20:15.
In the meantime we are being proposed for NIAF affiliation
in September. Our initial joining fee is ?25 to include the cost of a club
vest and affiliation. (It?s against the rules not to wear a club vest for the
FRA relays!).
Our hope is the more people who join the cheaper the fee
becomes as we only need enough money to cover the affiliation fee of ?70.
Better still if you know of an organisation that would like
to sponsor our vests let me know!
Think about it and contact myself, Anne or Fiona if you are
interested.
