Carnethy Five
Best wishes to all the Northern Ireland athletes travelling to
Edinburgh for the Carnethy Five Hill race. This classic event
normally has an entry of 400+, with athletes from all parts of the
UK. With five hills, a total climb of 2500 feet in six miles, the
event still manages to have sections of fast running as well as steep
ascents and hairy descents. There is a trophy for best overseas
competitor which has been won by NI athletes in the past.
British Championship
Entries are flooding in for the Donard Commedagh Br Championship race
on Saturday, 31 March, just six weeks away. This is your chance
to compete on home ground with the best in the UK. Get your entry
in as soon as possible. A list of current entries will be listed
on the web as soon as possible.
Training Day
A great event was had by all who participated with some new athletes
along. An interesting practical navigation test was held.
It was noticeable that some members present could actually
navigate. However some regular competitors, who apparently cannot
navigate, were not to be seen at the training day although one was
apparently spotted at the rugby international in Cardiff!
Binevenagh Race
You are reminded that our first race of the season is on Binevenagh on
Saturday, 24 February. This is also the first of the Grand Prix
series. With increasing numbers last year, the event provides a
good warm up for the season, with climbs below and to above the cliffs
and fast running. As one who grew up with a view of Binevenagh
out of my bedroom window, I can recommend it!
