November News Update
Sat 3 November 2007 - Ian Taylor
The Autumn Fellrunner magazine dropped through my letterbox this
morning. Its great to see four athletes from Mournes Runners
featuring in the Br Championship overall results - the most in a long
time. Jim Patterson is 13th at vet50 and 6th at vet60 while Des
Woods wins a bronze medal at vet 40. In the ladies categories
Fiona Maxwell was first in the vet40 group with Alwynne Shannon equal
third. Both also feature in the open category with Fiona 4th,
just one point off a bronze medal and Alwynne 14th. Mournes
Runners were 10th overall in the mens teams and Newcastle were 10th in
the Vet40 team category. We hope that prize winners are able to
get to the awards on 10th November in Kendal.
This edition of the Fellrunner is all of 150 pages - and you get three
of them for the annual subscription of ?12. Articles include a
profile of Janet McIver who appeared as from nowhere this year to win
everything, Cuillin routes and two articles about the Ultra Tour of
Mont Blanc. The Bob Graham round appears in a number of articles - to
date only Denis Rankin & Jim Patterson have completed it from NI,
to the best of my knowledge, perhaps the standard of our endurance
athletes is not what it used to be? There is an article about
walking & running the Tatra Mountains - you could combine that with
a trip to the World Masters on 6 September next year.

Some NIMRA members were down in Dublin for the marathon there last Monday. Congratulations to Don Travers, 35th overall, in an
excellent time of 2:39:27 and 9th local. Third local was Gary
Crossan, no stranger to International Mountain Running, with a time of
2:26:58. Billy Orr was 14th in the M45 age group in
2:58:03. Occasional fell runner, Greg McClure finished in
3:05:57, Joe Quinn took 3:40:23 being 14th in the M60 group.
Barbara Brown set a new pb for her age group in a time of 3:47:58.
You are reminded that the NIMRA dinner is on 24 November in Harlequins,
south Belfast. Information about cost, meals and prize winners
will be posted out next week. We look forward to having a new
male open award presented by Newcastle Club.
