Race Updates: Lurig & Rostrevor (updated)
Thu 9 August 2007 - Ian Taylor
Lurig
The very popular Lurig race takes place next Saturday with the start at
the centre of Cushendall during the Festival week. Out of the
last six races Neil Carty has won five of them, with his fastest recent
time of 27:26 in 2006, although the record of 26:05 was set by Robbie
Bryson in 1994. Shileen OKane was also in fine form in 2006,
setting a new record of 34:32. Last year we also had record
numbers with 138 competitors. The event is also the penultimate
round of the Grand Prix series so come & enhance your standing.
Rostrevor
This is the final race in the 2007 NI Championship and also the
selection race for the World Trophy. It gives you an opportunity
to see what a World Trophy course is like, as we have modelled it
fairly closely on this years event in Switzerland. The course is
a lap one, starting from near the upper car park. The route
description is on the web (not the 2006 route which was there until
recently.) Unfortunately, in the absence of the web master, the
route map has not appeared on the route file!
Basically each lap starts at a road bend A, below the upper car park,
goes downhill, left at the junction, across the river, then sharp left
after a short climb to point B. The track is then followed south,
dropping down to the footbridge over the river and into the bottom end
of the car park, C. THe first zig zag, D is followed up hill and
then, instead of going sharp left, a track is followed into the central
gully & climbed directly to the zig zag top, point F. Slieve
Martin is then climbed & the zig zags descended to the car
park, exit at the bottom down to the start & a new loop.
