Snowdon Teams
Sat 30 June 2007 - Ian Taylor
The Ladies team for the Home International Snowdon Race on Saturday 28th July is
Tish McCann
Anne Sandford
Frances Orr
The mens team will be finalised by Sunday.
Normally athletes travel over on Friday, usually by air to Liverpool,
returning on Sunday. The Snowdon race is one that everyone should
do occasionally, being the closest of the UK races to a continental up
& down mountain race. As well as home country teams there are
regular vistors from Italy. The race starts in Llanberis and
climbs 5 miles and 3300 feet to the summit of Snowdon, returning by the
same route. The descent is fast and furious.
Last years winning times were 1:07:24 (men) and 1:19:36 with 376
finishers. The fastest time to the summit, 39:47 is held by
Robbie Bryson when he had a fierce battle in 1985 with Kenny Stuart,
the latter winning in 1:02:29. Apart from Robbie & Kenny,
only John Lenihen of Ireland has got under 41 minutes.
