Black Mountain Race

For many years a race has been organised in October in west Belfast from the Springfield Road up the Black Mountain with a return by the road.  This year the event takes place on Sunday, 5 October, with registration at Caulfields Bar,685 Springfield Road. 

From the information I have found there is a walk starting at 10:30 and thr race at 1:30 pm but you might be best to check the times with the pub by phoning them on 9024 0008.

The route is Upper Springfield Rd, Upper Whiterock Rd, Rodgers Field, Matchet Field, TV mast (Divis), Mast Road, Upper Springfield Rd, Monagh Rd, Upper Springfield Rd.  Obviously the initial part of the route is on road, with a climb on grass and heather to the mast, with the finish again on road.

I understand it is organised by the Black Mountain Walk & Run Committee with the proceeds in aid of a charity supporting those attempting suicide (I think).  Thanks to David Tweed, other athletes at Sl Gallion  (and the Parades Commission Web site!) for the information.
