Hill & Dales
Wed 9 April 2008 - Ian Taylor
The next few weeks are dominated by the start of the Hill & Dale
series, beginning with the McVeigh Classic at Castlewellan this
Thursday at 7:30 pm. With two climbs its hardly just a trail race
but is ideal for newcomers, with no open mountain section. Last
year the race was won by Ricky Graham, home for Easter, in a new record
time of 31:16, with both Stephen Duncan and Deon McNeilly close behind
inside Deons 2001 record.
The ladies race was won by Martina Hawkins in a fast time of 39:54, but some way behind Kerry Hartys 2005 record of 38:15.
Thursday also sees the start of the new junior series, shorter races
held in conjunction with other races. This series is intended for
under 16s and under 18s, with the main organiser Tish McCann. It
is expected that the junior race will start a few minutes before the
senior one.
Be there, get your number for the series - see elsewhere on this site for the form.
You are also reminded that Knockdhu Home International is on Saturday,
26 April. The next two weeks provide your last opportunity to
impress the selectors in their choice of NI teams - Men, ladies, men
development team, veterans, juniors.
