North South Challenge
Tue 29 April 2008 - Ian Taylor
Just when you thought you had a free weekend, the North
South Challenge has popped into our calendar, after an abortive attempt to have
the first race of the challenge at Knockdhu. If you are planning a medium or long run next Sunday, do this event instead.
The challenge is over the Black Mountain on the Carlingford
peninsula on a very run-able course, up through the forest from map
reference
100 108 and then along the spine of the mountains to Black?s Mountain,
in the
opposite direction to Flagstaff. Return
is by the same route. (I can speak from personal experience of
the forest section as I was along it twice last year putting out
markers for the Sl Foye Trial Race).
The above distance
of 14.8 km (9.2 miles) with 787 metres of climb is for senior men, MV40 &
MV50, with shorter courses for junior ladies (turn at edge of forest) and
ladies, junior men and vet60 men (turn at the prehistoric cairn, Carnavaddy,
6.0 miles). The course is advertised as
marked.
See the Race Details section for further information.
