Slieve Foye Mountain Trial
Sat 23 August 2008 - Ian Taylor
The Slieve Foye Mountain Trail takes place this Saturday. A
unique event in our calendar, this would be good prepararion for anyone
doing an autumn mountain marathon. As well you get an opportunity
to explore the Cooley Hills, with quite different terrain on each side
of the Windy Gap.
Devised by Brian Vallely & based on the classic Lake
District event, this is effectively a one day mountain marathon where
you can concentrate on the navigation and carry relatively little
gear. Hence if you want to improve your navigation, want an
enjoyable outing in less familar hills or are preparing for the Mourne
Mountain Marathon, this is an event you should not miss.
The details of the venue location in the Cooley Mountains, over the
same area as the Flagstaff race, are elsewhere on this web site.
While organised by Armagh Club, you can still contact me on 028 9028
0790 if you need further
details. It is suggested that you print out the race details
elsewhere on this site to enable you to find the race registration
location.
As the race checkpoints are still being finalised, the distances &
climb indicated are approximate & depend on your route
choice. It is intended that two course lengths will be supported.
