Snowdon Home International
Sat 28 June 2008 - Ian Taylor
You are reminded that we are selecting a team for the Snowdon Home International race on Saturday, 26 July.
We would like to send a team of four men and three ladies and need to
submit names to the Snowdon race organisers within the next couple of
weeks.
If you are interested in being considered please let a member of the
selection committee know as soon as possible. We already have
interest expressed from some athletes. The selection Committee will be meeting after the Sl Donard race on Friday, 4 July.
We have used this event for a development team in the past. Hence
you do not have to be ranked number one in NI to be considered!
The Snowdon race is one of the "classic" UK races, more like a European
race than most, with 5 miles uphill, climbing 3300 feet and then
descending back down again, with all the route on road, track and broad
path. The current mens record was set by Kenny Stuart way back
in 1985 at 1:02:29 when he had a fantastic race with our own local
Robbie Bryson. Robbie just beat him to the top and still holds the record for the
fastest ascent of 39:47. The ladies record is 1:12:48 set
by Carol Greenwood in 1995.
The race organisers contribute to accommodation costs and NIMRA provides some support for travel.
