Calendar Update

Tue 2 February 2010 - Ian Taylor

Binevenagh, 27 February.

As there is a limit on race numbers of 50 (we had 70+) last year imposed by NIEA, entries are now online so that no one travels to the venue & is prevented from running.  The website address is

www.eventelephant.com/binevenaghmountainrace

Because of the limitations on numbers, the NIMRA committee have reluctantly decided that it can no longer be a Grand Prix event.  A further Grand Prix event will be added in due course.  Of course Binevenagh is a good event to test your race fitness on, being just a week before Slieve Gullion.

Silent Valley, 10th April

A route description has been added, with online entry to be facilitated in the next few days.

There was an error in the printed calendar - the start time is at 12 noon, not 11 am.  Please correct your copy.  The information in the FRA calendar is correct.

Slieve Gullion, 6th March

There is a new route for this first Championship event of 2010.  The start is at the Sl Gullion Forest Park Centre with a large car park, coffee shop and toilets.  Bring your friends - there are forest walks etc as well.  Car parking is free.  Refreshments will be by special arrangement with the coffee shop so post race activities with prize giving are all at the race venue.

With about 4.7 miles and 460 metres of climb, the route is slightly longer than the old route with a bit more climbing.  Currently the ground on the summit area is frozen, making for fast travel.  The route description is on the web.  A short section in the middle of the route is marked with tape - please leave in place to guide others.

Glenariff, 13th March

As this race has been re-measured as 5.9 miles long it has been re-classified as a short race.  The only difference this makes is that the organiser has more flexibility if the weather is good in terms of gear requirements.  Of course, as for any mountain race, you should come prepared to wear or carry appropriate clothing for the conditions.
