Wed 18 August 2010 - Ian Taylor
After his astonishing record breaking run at the Seven Sevens Stephen Cunningham is confirmed as winner of the 2010 Male Championship. His points total is a maximum of 400 from his best four races. Its great to see a new name on the trophy, representing a younger generation of athletes.
Shileen O'Kane is also confirmed as the female champion after a strong consistent performance all year. Shileen has a total of 399 points - but could make this a clean sweep of 400 points if she wins at Donard-Commedagh.
Currently Gary Bailey on 388 and Willie Marks on 375 are in second and third places, but could be passed by Des Woods (295 from 3 races) or Johnny Steede (292 from 3) or Paul McAnespie (282 from 3) next weekend. Veteran category leaders are Willie Marks (MV35), Dale Mathers (MV45), Jim Patterson (MV60), Peter Grant (MV40), with Mike Barton just moving ahead of Harry Teggarty in the MV55 age group.
In the ladies' section, DEnise Mathers is in second place on 383 points, with Hazel McLaughlin third on 375 but either or both could be passed by Alwynne Shannon and Diane Wilson if they complete the final Championship race over Donard-Commedagh.
