
Silent Valley Start Area

The race start time is at 12 noon (not as in the NIMRA December vesion of the calendar)
If arriving by car, indicate at the entrance gates that you are a competitor or marshall, otherwise you will have to pay the normal car parking fees.
1. The start is half a mile and 300 feet climb across rough hillside from
the car park. Allow plenty of time to get there. Kit will be checked
before the start.
2. There is a wall crossing point after Wee Binnian at grid reference 318
228. There will not be a crossing point higher up near the summit.
3. There is a cut off time of 1.50pm at Ben Crom Dam. Any competitors
retiring at this point can follow the road down Silent Valley to the
finish.
4. The finish of the race across Silent Valley Dam will be marked with
tapes which must be followed.
5. The Cafe at Silent Valley is not operating. However, mobile catering
facilities should be available on race day.

Top Mountain Runners from across the British Isles will be competing in
the Mournes on Saturday. The Northern Ireland Mountain Running
Association is hosting the opening race of the 2010 British Championship
at Silent Valley. The new course climbs 5 peaks in 10 miles and a great
race is in prospect.
Reigning British Champion Rob Hope (Pudsey and Bramley AC) heads the entry
of over 200 runners for the prestigious event. Main challengers include
his brother Danny, Welsh star Tim Davies(Mercia FR), Lake District men
Morgan Donnelly and Chris Steele (Borrowdale FR) and Lloyd Taggart (Dark
Peak FR). Northern Ireland Champion Des Woods, Hill and Dale Champion
Edward Hanna, Stephen Cunningham, Gary Bailey (Mourne Runners) and
Ballymena Runners Johnny Steede and Alex Brennan lead the local challenge.
The women's race should also be a cracker with reigning British Champion
Phillipa Maddams (Keswick AC), Jackie Lee (Eryri Harriers), Helen Fines
(Calder Valley FR) and Claire Whitehead(Cosmic HR) all in contention.
There will also be a good local challenge with Northern Ireland Champion
Charlene Haugh (Mourne Runners), the in form Karen Alexander (Sperrin
Harriers) and former NI Champion Shileen O'Kane (BARF).
The race starts at 12 noon and the leading finishers are expected back at
Silent Valley at approximately 1.30 pm.
