2017 opens for business on Gullion

Next Saturday, March 4th, sees the opening of the 2017 hill running season. This is a great chance for everyone to see if that hard winter of training has made any difference to their standing in the race results.

Galacticos off season signing David Hicks descends the hill last year

As always the first race takes place on the slopes of Slieve Gullion. This is hill running at it’s purest; a wind swept, muddy, mountainside with no frills. You pays your money and get on with it; jumpers for goal posts and all that.

I love this short, runnable race. You can read more about it here. Whilst it is a short race, it is winter so come prepared with full body cover: a waterproof coat with a hood, waterproof leggings, hat, gloves and a whistle. There isn’t much navigation required, but if the cloud is down it wouldn’t be the first time that runners have ended up racing to Newry so be sure to bring a compass – just in case.

Hope to see you all there. Bring on the rampage.
