British Athletics Mountain Running Challenge

The Mountain Running Challenge provides a focus for endurance athletes to compete at mountain running events in the UK, with opportunities to be selected for Home country or National teams at International Championships, plus a further incentive to enter mountain races in Europe.

Exceptionally in 2015, the World Championships will be held in the UK at Betws-y-Coed in North Wales on 19 September – the only previous times that the World Trophy was hosted in the UK being at Keswick in 1988 and Edinburgh in 1995.

The Mountain Running Challenge will be an open three race challenge, with two races required to count in the overall standings (for which prize money will be available – details to be posted shortly).

The Mountain Running Challenge races for 2015 are:

Inter Counties Championships ( Up & Down ) – Betws-y-Coed, North Wales, Saturday 16 May

European Championship Trial ( Uphill ) – The Lakes, Sunday 31 May

World Championship Trial ( Up & Down ) – Betws-y-Coed, North Wales, Saturday 22 August

Important Note: Due to the nature of the event and for marshalling/safety reasons, there will be a finish cut-off

time of 2.30pm for all of the races. Note this equates to a running time of 1h30m for the senior men’s course

and we expect the winner to complete the course in around 55mins. The finish marshals will sweep the course
