Scrabo Hill Race – Thursday 15th August 2024 (Start time 7:00pm)
The Scrabo Hill Race hosted by Ballydrain Harriers returns for it’s 4th year and is a short distance category in the NIMRA Championship. Taking place on Thursday 15th August 2024.
NIMRA Championship – Short distance race
Registration: 17:45 – 18:45 BHAC Gazebo located in upper car park
Race start: 19:00 – field adjacent to lower car park (Killynether Wood)
Distance: 7.2km / 4.5miles
Ascent: 365m / 1200ft

Parking: Scrabo Country Park, Upper car park (below Scrabo Golf Club). Overflow available at lower car park.
Route Description:
Race will start in field adjacent to lower car park and follow forest trails / singletrack around a figure of eight course for a total of 2 laps. Course consists of short steep ascents, narrow paths, steps and plenty of tree roots/rocks. Course will be fully way-marked with sawdust & tape. There will be a ‘dibber’ point at start & finish.
Equipment: there will be no mandatory kit for this race but a rain jacket is recommended in the event of bad weather.
Marshalls: Marshalls will be located at major junctions and at crossing points. Runners must comply with instructions from marshalls.
Retirements: All retiring runners should report to the nearest marshall’s post (if possible), return by the safest, direct route and must report to the race organisers at the finish.

- Participants must refrain from handshakes, hugs and high fives. Cover their coughs and sneezes. No spitting.
- Try not to touch any surfaces at the event.
- All participants should leave as soon as they finish.
- While running participants should always maintain a safe distance from others and should allow a safe distance while overtaking.
- NO headphones or ear pieces of any description are allowed for safety reasons.
- Reasonable fitness levels needed – this is not an easy ‘trail’ race.
- Do not take part if you have any Covid symptoms as per Government advice.
- Please bring own pins.
- No running poles allowed as per NIMRA guidelines.
Directions:
From Belfast, follow Newtownards Road A20 to Newtownards. Turn right at 1st roundabout onto Blair Mayne Rd South. Straight across next roundabout (signs for Scrabo Country Park) and turn right onto Scrabo Road. After Maxol Service Station turn left following Scrabo Road. Continue for approx. 1mile and turn right for Scrabo Golf Club/Scrabo Country Park.
From Newcastle/Banbridge/Lisburn, travel to Comber (County Down), follow A21 towards Newtownards. Approx 1.5 miles from Comber turn left onto Moat Road. Junction at top of Moat Road turn left and immediately right for Scrabo Golf Club/Scrabo Country Park.
Car parking at top of hill on left. Overflow car parking available at lower car park (Killynether Wood), located ¼ mile further round Scrabo Road.
Registration is at BHAC Gazebo located in Upper Car Park. Start area is in field adjacent to lower car park, ~3 min walk from upper car parks. This will be signposted from upper car park and marshals will be available for directions.
