Turkey Trot

Turkey Trot

Distance 5.7 miles with 435 metres of climb.

12 noon from the bottom of the Trassey Track.

The forecast is looking a bit stormy for the festive period so just a reminder to make sure that you come well prepared for winter conditions. This may be a fun event but the mountains in winter can be a serious challenge so make sure you have full waterproof body cover and suitable warm clothing.  A hat and pair of gloves are a must. The other essential requirements are a whistle and compass, and a map of the route. There will be a full kit check before the race.

Due to rules relating to winter mountain races you cannot enter this race if you are under 18 years of age. Running with your dog is also a no no.

When you enter on the day, you will receive four green tabs with your race number on them. Hand these tabs to the marshals at each of the cols on the route and to the marshal at the bottom of the Happy valley. This is our way of recording your progress around the course.  Hand the final tab in at the finish line.

You will also have an electronic timing peg which must be inserted into the control box at the end of the race to record your race time. There will be no other control box’s at the marshalled positions so don’t get into a flap looking for them;  the electronic wizardry is just for the finish.

The prize giving will be at the Tollymore Mountain Centre where there will be mince pies, mulled wine and other goodies. Paddy Mallon will host his spot prize quiz for the usual assortment of Barf reject tat…er sorry ..wondrous prizes and hopefully everybody will have a great time.  Happy Christmas.
