Bogle and O’Kane continue to perform well in Hill and Dales
On Thursday 2nd May 2013, 176 athletes turned out for the fourth race of the Newcastle AC hosted Hill & Dale Series. This was another excellent turnout and shows the increasing popularity and support for the well organised series.
In decent conditions, two of the most impressive performers of the series so far, Allan Bogle (City of Derry AC) and Ian Bailey (Newcastle AC) battled it out on the relentless climb to the top of Slieve Binnian. On this occasion it was the City of Derry AC man who came out victorious, completing the (2 miles – 2,000ft) uphill only course in 22:26. Ian Bailey, impressive winner of last week’s race at Slieve Martin, took 2nd place in 22:55; while another Newcastle AC man, Deon McNeilly claimed 3rd place in 23:03.
In the ladies race, Shileen O’Kane (Lagan Valley AC) continued her dominance of the category. The Lagan Valley AC athlete climbed strongly to secure another win in 27:15. Springwell Running Club’s Gillian Wasson (28:30) bettered her third place finish from last week, taking 2nd place this time around, while Anne Sandford (Lagan Valley AC) completed the top three ladies in 29:39.
