Team NI 8th Place at Pike’s Peak
Congratulations to the NI men who finished 8th team in the World Mountain Running Long Distance event, held on Pike’s Peak, yesterday.
It was the first time running on the peak for any of the men; if you read the race description I am sure you will agree it must have been a baptism at altitude. Ian Bailey was the first man home in 81st (2.56.55) followed by Justin Maxwell in 108th (3:04:04) and Chris Stirling in 185th (3.20.20). Also running, but not in the team points was local man Peter Bell, 455th (3.52.37). The USA team was first, with Italy second, England 5th, with no Scottish men and only one Welsh athlete participating.
The men’s race was won by local Sage Canaday in 2.10.33 and the ladies by local Allie J McLaughlin in 2.33.42.
Full race report to follow.
