The Bearnagh Classic takes place this Saturday

The Mourne Runners will be the hosts for the classic Bearnagh race this Saturday (August 24th) starting at 11am. Sign on in Happy Valley car park (top of the Trassey road) from 10am.

After last years alteration to the course to accommodate the British Champs it is back to business as usual; starting from the gate at Happy Valley runners will tackle the peaks of Meelbeg, Bearnagh and Meelmore, respectively, finishing back in the Happy Valley.

The Mourne Runners have been dominant in this race over the past few years and if Stevie Cunningham runs on Saturday this pattern looks set to hold; although Ballymena man ‘The Steede’ appears to be in blistering form and will give Stevie something to think about if he makes the trip.

This is a short race which is easy to navigate so suits the less experienced hill runners as well as those a bit longer in the tooth.

The kit requirements will depend on the weather, but all runners should be prepared to carry full body cover (waterproof top and bottoms, hat and gloves), map, compass and whistle, if necessary.
