Upcoming Internationals & other races

Snowdon International,   20 July, Llanberis, Wales

16 km, 1006 m climb   

Teams of 4 Senior Men and 3 Senior Women will be selected to represent Northern Ireland. These will be based on current form, up to 17 June.

If you are interested in being considered for the team for Snowdon, please contact Mike Barton, Ricky Cowan or Ian Taylor on or before Sunday, 23rd June.  The team will be selected early the following week.  If you do not race regularly in N I, then please inform us of recent events in which you have performed.

The team will travel to N Wales on Friday, 19th July and return on Sunday, 21st.  One night’s accommodation is paid for by the race organisers with nimra and team members sharing the cost of the second night and travel to the event.  The latter is normally by boat to Holyhead and then by car/train/organiser’s transport to Llanberis. Alternatively you can fly to Liverpool and get the train to N Wales.

Irish Championship

This series consists of five races, with best three to count, with the next race on Mweelrea, Mayo on 29th June with 10.7 km and 766 metres of climb.

In the previous race on Carrauntoohil, Diane Wilson was first lady, by a mere 20 minutes.  First male NI athlete was Willie Marks in 11th position, with Sam Heron and Stephen Sloan not far behind.

Masters Competition

The main international event for Mountain Running Masters in 2013 is the World Masters Event on 31 Aug, Czech Rep, for M40 (men) and F35 (women) upwards.  For further information on these and other international events see the World Mountain Running (WMRA) web site; http://www.wmra.info/

A group from NI go to this event every year and usually come back with some individual or team medals, and great stories of a super weekend.  For further information contact Anne Sandford.

British & Irish Junior Mountain Running Championships          

Scotland, 21 Sept

This event is for teams at under 16 and under 18 and individual championship medals at these age groups.  There will be up to four teams of four in the following age categories potentially  selected – U18, U16 (both boys and girls).   Selection will be based on performance up to 24th August.

If you – or the juniors you are work with, are interested in being considered for this team event, please contact Ian Taylor before the end of June.  We need to decide what the demand for places is and hence which teams (U16, U18, M or F) we may send.

Mourne Mountain Marathon
